Never before in Socialist Yugoslavia did we dance like during those first two years of the 1980s. The situation was grim: the country was shaken by an economic crisis, the all-powerful President Tito had just died, news from Poland arrived that the country was in peculiar circumstances...and the younger generation lived to the then-popular song, «Imagine Living to the Rhythm of Dance Music.» A fantastically popular musical scene was born on the streets that completely changed life in the otherwise gray and sleepy city of Zagreb. All this is remembered by the filmmaker, then a child. Today, twenty-five years later, he realizes that these times were decisive in his formative years. From Zagreb to Ljubljana, Vienna, Belgrade, Budapest, Paris, Utrecht and New York, he searches for the heroes of his youth, attempting to understand the story of punk rock and the fall of Socialism, and thus comprehend his roots. IGOR MIRKOVIC Born in Zagreb, television journalist and director of documentary films. From 1989 to 2000, editor and writer of a great number of news and documentary programs, as well as several political magazines. He received a large number of domestic and international rewards for his news reporting. Together with Rajko Grlic, he directed the feature-length political documentary “Who Wants to be a President” the story of the political and electoral battles in Croatia. This film was theatrically distributed and shown at numerous film festivals in Europe and the United States. Also the director of the documentary, «Orbanici Unplugged» (1998.)
